PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAMME

The Occupational Trainer is a qualified technical or occupational expert who is equipped with the ability to deliver training in their specific field of expertise. This qualification is aimed at potential or existing trainers who are responsible for delivering occupational learning programmes to trainees in the workplace. The occupational trainer must have current knowledge of the industry, the workplace and job/role of the person being trained and assessed.

 The development of the capacity of Occupational Trainers through this qualification to deliver quality learning was recognised as a national priority by the Department of Labour at the initiation of the Quality Council of Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and the Occupations Qualifications Sub Framework (OQSF). It is also listed on the National Scarce Skills list: Top 100 occupations in demand.

 The main aim of this qualification is to:

  • Build and maintain the quality of provision of workplace training, given the important role it has to play more broadly within occupational training.
  • Raise the status of those who facilitate learning in an industry or trade context.
  • Begin a process for the on-going professional development of occupational education and training practitioners.

  PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

On completion of the programme you will be able to:

  • Establish the profile, special needs and barriers to learning of learners within the specified requirements of the training programme.
  • Prepare, adapt and align learning materials and resources for a training intervention in the workplace.
  • Deliver training, evaluate and report on a learning intervention in the workplace.
  • Gather evidence and make assessment decisions using given assessment tools.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE

It is assumed that learners entering this programme are competent NQF Level 4, with technical or occupational expertise and will act as a trainer of persons in the same field of expertise.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

RPL for access to the qualification: Khulisane and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements.  Application forms are available from our offices. 

 RPL for access to the external integrated summative assessment: Khulisane and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of result or certifying a work experience record.

 METHODOLOGY

 Training Programme Duration: 13 Days and 2 months per module of work experience.

 Credit allocation: 124 credits.

Internal assessment: Portfolio of evidence will be submitted within two months after the training of each module. Assessment activities include evaluating all documentation produced during the process and questioning to test knowledge and ability to apply.  This assessment leads to entrance into the integrated external summative assessment.

External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA): The External integrated summative assessment conducted through the relevant QCTO Assessment Quality partner is required for the issuing of this qualification.

The external integrated summative assessment will focus on the exit level outcomes and associated assessment criteria. The external assessment will be conducted through a theoretical assessment by an assessor registered by the Merseta as the AQP at approved assessment centres.

Certification: The QCTO will issue the certificate to successful candidates after completion of the EISA.

 TARGET GROUP

This qualification is designed for potential or existing trainers who are  qualified technical or occupational experts, who are equipped with the ability to deliver training in their specific field of expertise and who are responsible for delivering occupational learning programmes to trainees in the workplace.
